The launch of the iPhone has sparked rumours that the feud between The Beatles and Apple may be at an end.
No song sung by The Beatles has ever been sold on iTunes because of the long-running court cases between Apple Computer (now Apple Inc) and Apple Records.
In a tease for Beatles fans, Apple chief executive Steve Jobs's keynote speech at the Macworld trade show used Lovely Rita from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
The huge onstage screen also showed images during Jobs's speech of the Sergeant Pepper's and Abbey Road album covers.
A source close to both companies has told Reuters that there are ongoing discussions between the firms.
However, Jobs did not make any announcement about a deal with The Beatles that would see the band's music available in the iTunes music store.
But his silence could be because the forthcoming appeal against a recent court ruling in Apple Computer's favour is due to be heard in February.
