Samsung continued its aggressive onslaught on the market for PC peripherals last week with the launch of two ranges of CRT and LCD monitors.

Updating its SynchMaster CRT range, Samsung moved into the 19in space with the SynchMaster 900P monitor.

Using Samsung's FST technology, the SynchMaster is aimed at CAD/CAM, DTP and Web site professionals.

Offering a dot pitch of 0.26mm, the monitor can accept a bandwidth of 205MHz and is capable of refresh rates of up to 96KHz, which, Samsung claims, guarantees image sharpness and flicker-free performance.

The unit is fitted with a USB port and features a slide-away control panel.

The SynchMaster also features Samsung's Smart II screen technology, which uses super pigment phosphor and high brightness from the company's modified phosphor process. Using Smart II extends the colour range by 15%, the company says.

The SM900P will be available from the end of this month, priced at #485.

The Korean electronics giant also launched a range of LCD monitors, which eliminates geometric picture distortion across the screen, according to Samsung.

Two models will be available: the SynchMaster 320TFT 13.3in and the SynchMaster 520TFT 15in. They both feature PC Plug and Play and Macintosh compatibility, integrated business audio capability, and are USB-ready to enable additional connectivity.

Aaron Fright, Samsung's product manager for computer peripherals, said he expects the market for LCD displays to rise to 400,000 in the UK by the Year 2000 and predicted that Samsung will take a 10% share of this market.

The SM 320TFT will be priced at #789 while the SM520TFT will cost #1,199.

Both products will ship at the end of this month.
