The government has appointed Stephen Timms as the new ecommerce minister, replacing Douglas Alexander in the latest cabinet reshuffle.
MP for East Ham, Timms was previously minister of state for schools at the department for education and skills.

But, unlike his predecessor - whose appointment was criticised for his lack of IT knowledge - Timms at least has a good grounding in technology. He spent 15 years in the computing and telecommunications industry, working for outsourcing specialist Logica and analyst firm Ovum.
He has been honorary president of the telecommunications users association and a member of the council of the parliamentary information technology committee.
So keen on technology is he, that he even has his own website.
Meanwhile, ex-eminister Douglas Alexander has been shuffled over to the cabinet office.
