Fujitsu launched its CO2 and Value Analysis solution at the European Technology Forum

Fujitsu Laboratories of Europe has extended its green datacentre strategy with the launch of new technology designed to help firms gain greater insight into the energy use and carbon emissions associated with their datacentres.

The company's Total CO2 and Value Analysis solution, launched at the European Technology Forum event, has been designed in collaboration with UK government-backed advisory body the Carbon Trust.

Based on a simulator built with support from the Carbon Trust, the technology takes into account software, delivered services and physical infrastructure to enable an "holistic analysis" of energy use and carbon emissions, according to Fujitsu.

"The result is a revolutionary new toolset that enables us to improve energy efficiency and CO2 footprints within existing datacentres based on a quantitative understanding of the complexities of datacentre infrastructures and their operation," said Fumihiro Maruyama, managing director of Fujitsu Laboratories of Europe.

"These are exciting developments that will have a major impact on our ability to transform datacentre operations, and realise the green datacentre of the future."

The firm added that the tool could be used to optimise existing datacentres, identify the most energy-efficient equipment, estimate return on investment for new datacentres and many other applications.

Total CO2 and Value Analysis is scheduled to be deployed in trials initially at Fujitsu's datacentres during 2010.
