Twitter is previewing a new beta version of its mobile web site today, designed to offer greater functionality and appear more like the real Twitter.
The new Mobile Twitter client will work best on the open-source WebKit browsers, such as those on Android, iPhone, Nokia S60 and Palm WebOS phones, according to Twitter.
The company has invited users to share their feedback and let Twitter know how it can make the client better before it is taken out of beta.
"It's got a great new look, and has some great new touches that will make your mobile experience of Twitter a bit more fun and a lot more helpful," said Twitter in a blog post.
The news follows recent findings from internet mobility company Novarra, which revealed that micro-blogging is a key driver of mobile internet use.
Novara tracks the page views of its users and found that visits to Twitter grew 3,500 per cent in the first half of 2009. Novara claims that its Vision browser and internet platform reaches one billion users globally.
