Apple ties browser previews into App Store

App Store users can now see previews and information within a browser window

Apple has added a new feature to its App Store service, allowing users to browse the App Store, check out individual application previews and review information within a browser window.

The system replaces an earlier protocol in which users had to launch iTunes and access the store through the media player before viewing the application's page. The process irked some users as the iTunes application could be slow to load or need an update.

The new feature means that overview information, screen shots and reviews are all displayed on the web page, although users will still need to open iTunes to purchase and download applications.

Apple launched a similar system for iTunes last year which allowed users to view overviews and preview clips for songs offered on the music download service.

The App Store update follows one of the company's biggest announcements in years. The new iPad tablet device was unveiled last week and is slated to hit the UK in March.
