Canon today launched its next-generation multifunction print platform designed to offer lower operating costs, improved security and easier integration into workflows.

The imageRunner Advance platform will be available in Canon's C5000 series aimed at small and mid-size firms, offering print speeds of up to 51 pages per minute (ppm), and the C7000 series for larger companies, with speeds up to 65ppm.

Canon also unveiled the C9000 series, known as the imageRunner Advance Pro, for professional print service providers such as copy shops. The Advance Pro C9070 offers 70ppm, and the C9060 60ppm.

The Advance Pro models differ from the C5000 and C9000 series by providing a range of finishing options, including hole punching, stapling up to 100 sheets, saddle stitching up to 20 sheets and booklet trimming.

Canon said that all the new printers bring benefits such as easier integration into document workflows, lower operating costs, improved document security and a lower environmental impact.

"Companies of all sizes use documents to communicate ideas, share creativity, back up work or formalise contracts," said Paul Rowntree, Canon European marketing manager.

"Through advanced print, processing, publishing and communication, imageRunner Advance enhances our customers' business processes and integrates seamlessly with existing systems to create a truly digital office."

The imageRunner Advance series will allow users to scan paper documents straight to Microsoft SharePoint, as well as to a user's desktop or fax machine, as previous Canon printers allowed. Scanning to destinations will be made easier with more intuitive buttons on the printer's interface, Canon said.

The LCD touch screen interface will be more customisable than previous editi ons of Canon printers, according to the firm, allowing users to speed-up access to the most relevant functions for their specific role through automated one-touch workflows.
