Internet service provider Pipex Business has launched an Enhanced Upstream service, offering a data upstream of 2.5Mbit/s, more than double the 1Mbit/s provided by most services.
Pipex focuses on internet services for small businesses. It is part of the Tiscali UK group, which itself was recently bought by TalkTalk, the Carphone Warehouse's internet arm.
Many small businesses are turning to hosted and other online services, and the need for high-quality upload and download speeds is becoming increasingly important, particularly for applications such as videoconferencing or online backup.
Pipex Enhanced Upstream is available to customers connected to an ADSL2+-enabled exchange, and Pipex warned that, as with all broadband connections, the actual speed will vary depending on the distance from the exchange, line quality and the customer's equipment.
The new service is available on Pipex's top two packages, Pro and Premium Plus. Pipex Pro with Enhanced Upstream promises up to 16Mbit/s downstream and 2.5Mbit/s upstream for £19.50 a month excluding VAT.
The top-of-the-range Pipex Premium Plus with Enhanced Upstream offers up to 16Mbit/s with a guaranteed bandwidth of 500Kbit/s, as well as Enhanced Care and an engineer install for £49 a month excluding VAT.
