Apple chief executive Steve Jobs has apparently confirmed that the firm will not be offering support for its iPhone 2G, in a terse reply to a customer's email.
A German user with the Twitter handle @Ven000m emailed Jobs and asked: "Hey Steve! Is Apple supporting/updating the iPhone 2G in the future?" Jobs replied: "Sorry, no."
The customer subsequently posted a screenshot of the email reply and email source code on Twitter to verify its authenticity.
V3.co.uk asked Apple for confirmation of the contents of the email but had received no reply at the time of publication.
Jobs's response is not that surprising as the Apple chief has a history of sending brief replies to customer emails.
The news comes a week after Apple announced its fourth-generation iPhone operating system that features new multi-tasking capabilities to allow users to run multiple third-party apps at the same time.
However, Apple also confirmed that iPhone 3G and older iPod touch models will not be able to take advantage of the multi-tasking updates.
Apple's iPhone 2G was released in 2007 as the first incarnation of the firm's hugely successful smartphone.

Screwing of the early customers
I pruchased my iPhone 2G in 2008 as it was the only option available. I have at times loved and hated my iphone and it has surprisingly survived my kids dropping it quite often. This just smells of screwing the people who helped make the iPhone a success. Remember that when I purchased it, there was no App Store, no frills, not a lot it could do. However, I did see the potential. This will cement my decision to terminate my AT&T contract and go with a different provider with better coverage and lower rates......

Bad Info!
Just one point to make - This article says that multi-tasking will not be available on iPhone 3GS or iTouch made before late 2009. Now, this may be because I'm the States, but according to Apple's iPhone OS 4 preview on their website, multitasking will be spported on any iPhone 3GS. Multitasking will only be available on iPhone 3GS and iTouch (32G and 64G models from late 2009).

iPhone 3G doesn't have multitasking, iPhone 3GS does.
There is a typo in this article..the 3GS and 3rd gen iPod touches will be able to support multitasking. The iPhone 3G and 2nd gen touches will not. Original iPod touches and iPhones will never see iPhone OS 4, sadly..
