Data recovery firm Kroll OnTrack has unveiled a new tool designed to ease worries about data loss and leakage.
OnTrack Eraser Degausser has been designed to wipe and destroy all traces of data on any magnetic media, according to the firm, removing the risk of sensitive information falling into the wrong hands.
"Simply deleting files from storage devices is not enough to ensure that sensitive information does not fall into the wrong hands," said Robert Winter, data recovery chief engineer at Kroll Ontrack UK.
"A degausser is one of the safest insurance policies a company can buy to prevent the spread of private data and legal liability."
Eraser Degausser generates a peak magnetic field of up to 18,000 gauss and can wipe data in seconds, the firm said.
Kroll suggests a number of enterprise uses ranging from the erasure of large volumes of data, to the destruction of specific sensitive or restricted information and the disposal of media when a software wipe is not appropriate.
