Email porn scandal rocks car plant

Car manufacturer Jaguar has suspended a number of workers from its Merseyside plant amid a pornographic email scandal.

According to a report in the Liverpool Post five employees were asked to leave the plant and a further 11 face dismissal for the distribution of 'inappropriate' material.

It is thought that as many as 30 people are under investigation at the company's Halewood plant for allegedly sending pornographic emails.

The incident apparently blew up when the suspect mail found its way onto the company's parent network, Ford, in the US. It is understood that senior managers were outraged at the incident and ordered a full enquiry.

David Crisp, a spokesman for the Halewood factory, was quoted as saying: "It's not the sort of thing that Jaguar will tolerate and there will be a complete investigation. That will take as long as it takes."

Back in 1999, Rolls Royce fired five people from its Bristol plant after a similar incident.
