AMD has introduced new dual-core desktop processors aimed at the value end of the consumer market.
Available now, the Athlon X2 7000 series forms part of the company's Cartwheel platform, along with the AMD 780G chipset that has integrated ATI Radeon 3200 graphics functions.
The new Athlon X2 7000 series comprises the 2.5GHz X2 7550, which will be available only to system builders, and the 2.7GHz X2 7750 'Black Edition' that has an unlocked clock multiplier and is available at a system builder price of $79 (£52).
AMD is expected to unveil a new platform aimed at high-end desktops early in 2009 that will use the company's quad-core Phenom chips.
