LAS VEGAS: NEC has shown off a twin-screen tablet running a modified version of Android 2.1.
The Android Cloud Communicator, unveiled at CES in Las Vegas, uses two 7in resistive LCD screens, meaning that a stylus rather than a finger must be used to control the device.
The screens have a resolution of 800 x 600, and the device uses a Cortex-A8 processor and has two USB ports. Battery life is a claimed five hours.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support is built in, and NEC has left space for 3G or 4G to be added later.
The firm has not said when the Android Cloud Communicator will be officially released, but it will launch Asia first and then Europe.
NEC has released a software development kit and is looking for developers to write for the platform. The company demonstrated Folio software that allows the user to annotate documents and create pictures.
