Panasonic has overhauled its go-anywhere Toughbook CF-U1 portable with a faster processor and new display that greatly improves outdoor visibility for workers in the field, according to the firm.
The Toughbook CF-U1 is a fully ruggedised ultra-mobile PC that weighs about 1Kg, and features an Intel Atom Z530 1.6 GHz processor, up from the previous 1.33GHz chip.
Other changes include a memory upgrade to 2GB, Windows 7 as the default operating system, and a 3G broadband option with Qualcomm's Gobi 2000 modem.
The second-generation Toughbook also features Panasonic's Transflective Plus technology, which increases the amount of sunlight reflected from the back of the display to enhance screen clarity.
An ambient light sensor allows the system to adjust the screen backlight brightness, improving visibility and power efficiency, according to Panasonic.
Pricing for the Toughbook CF-U1 starts at £1,899.
