StorageCraft has announced the latest version of its disk-based ShadowProtect backup recovery and migration tool.
The company offers disk-based backup, disaster recovery, data protection, system migration and security solutions for Windows servers, desktops and laptops, and this latest release, which is a free upgrade for existing users, adds improved support and new features.
ShadowProtect 3.5 adds support for Windows Server 2008 R2, along with a new tool that will back up failing hard drives and create an alert to warn of impending problems. StorageCraft said that this would allow IT managers to salvage data that could otherwise be lost in the event of failure.
"With ShadowProtect 3.5 you can back up as many sectors on a failing hard drive as possible," said Richard Zinner, head of IT at StorageCraft UK. "You might not be able to save all of the data off the drive, but with 3.5 you can recover as much as possible and save it to new hardware."
Other tools, such as improved boot configuration and better management of restore and backup features, have also been added.
ShadowProtect version 3.5 is a free upgrade for customers already using StorageCraft ShadowProtect 3.x. A free 30-day demo version of the software is also being offered.
