The Strata Green IT exam is designed to test practical skills

Trade organisation CompTIA has launched a specialised exam designed to test green skills.

The Strata Green IT exam is available through CompTIA's Strata certificate programme, and covers a wide array of environmental issues, deployments and policies. It is aimed at IT professionals, decision makers and facilities managers.

Entrants have just one hour to complete 30 questions, and must achieve over 70 per cent to qualify.

The questions are designed to test the candidates' knowledge and practical skill-sets, including how to dispose or preserve power with maximum efficacy, reduce a company's carbon footprint, install a virtualised environment and calculate the resulting return on investment efficiencies.

Once students have passed, they can move on to more advanced courses and certificates.

"Green IT is at the heart of virtually every aspect of sustainability, from the power grid, smart buildings and environmental control systems, to telepresence, telecommuting and virtualisation," said Terry Erdle, senior vice president of skills certifications at CompTIA.

"To fulfil the promise of green IT, technology professionals must add new skills unique to its environment. We are taking a big step in that direction through the Strata Green IT exam and the validation delivered by this important new programme."

Exams are delivered at Pearson VUE and Prometric testing centres around the world. Courseware will be available from Axzo Press and Element K.
