On-demand software vendor Salesforce.com has launched a new edition of its Force.com developer platform for the Google App Engine, which brings the service in line with a Google update in April that enabled the App Engine to support Java code.
Force.com for Google App Engine, originally launched in December 2008, is aimed at developers wanting to create web and business applications that span both Salesforce and Google computing platforms. The end result is a customer facing Google-based application that can access business data from Salesforce applications.
The App Engine, which allows developers to build and host web applications on Google’s architecture, used to only support Python but now supports Java as a second language to improve the service’s flexibility.
"We're very excited by the reception the App Engine for Java preview has received in the developer community," said Scott McMullan, Google Apps partner lead.
"Bringing together Force.com and the new enhancements to App Engine will further extend the power and capability of application development in the cloud for developers worldwide."
