Google has removed the registration restrictions to its Writely online word processor.
The search giant acquired Writely when it bought its creator, Upstartle, in March this year. New users have not been able to register for the service since it was acquired.
Writely is now accepting new registrations and will soon be integrated with Google Accounts, which can be applied for separately or are associated with Gmail addresses.
The software lets users share and edit documents through a web browser, and provides online storage.
Writely supports most common document standards including those created in Microsoft Word and the Open Document Format used in OpenOffice.
The software has a similar look and feel to text editors such as those included with Microsoft Office or OpenOffice.
