HP Enterprise Services has announced HP Virtualised Storage Services (VSS), an addition to its Storage Management outsourcing services that adds thin provisioning and data tiering capabilities.
Available immediately, HP VSS is an optional add-on to HP's SAN-based Storage Management Services, offering improved efficiency through thin provisioning and data tiering.
VSS can save customers up to 30 per cent in costs, according to HP, by maximising storage use and moving data to the most appropriate storage tier.
Mission-critical data thus resides on the most responsive storage, while lower-priority information can be moved to a more cost-effective storage tier.
HP said that VSS allows organisations to benefit from the latest storage technology without the risks and time investment involved in an in-house deployment.
"As virtualisation moves to new areas in the datacentre, clients are beginning to realise its improved performance and cost benefits when applied to data," said Jeff Moyer, director of storage services at HP Enterprise Services.
"HP VSS is uniquely positioned to bring storage flexibility and elasticity to a client's infrastructure by allowing storage to be continually optimised as the business value of ageing data changes over time."
