Agito claims to cut international calling costs for iPhone and other smartphone users

Enterprise mobility firm Agito Networks has unveiled new software which it claims can cut the cost of international cellular calls by 80 per cent for organisations with large numbers of staff working overseas.

Agito Global Enterprise is now supported on most BlackBerry and Nokia handsets, and provides VoIP calls over 3G networks along with voice and data acceleration.

"Making calls on international tariffs can be prohibitively expensive for frequent travellers. By using our service these calls can be routed via PBXs on 3G or Wi-Fi connections to offer significant cost savings," said Agito founder Pejman Roshan.

The company had made sure that the service could support the iPhone and iPod Touch as large numbers of organisations are now using the devices.

"The iPhone is now seen as a corporate device and we have seen enterprises in the US, UK and Europe deploying it. We have responded by making our products compatible with the devices to ensure we can meet businesses' needs," Roshan said.

Agito has also upgraded its RoamAnywhere Mobility Router to the RA6000, which will be available this quarter for $34,995 (£22,000).

"The RA6000 series allows companies to purchase a single router that can handle up to 10,000 users, rather than several smaller units, to save costs on hardware and deploy the product more efficiently," said Roshan.

Agito Global Enterprise will be offered under subscription licences ranging from $4 to $11 (£2.50 to £7) per user per month to enable smaller firms to limit expenses.

"We have seen IT departments using commercial products like Skype to try and save costs through the use of VoIP systems, so there is a clearly a need for the technology and we hope these products will meet the needs of enterprises," he added.
