Microsoft has told games developers to make their Xbox titles ready for a Wii-style controller, according to an anonymous source speaking to MTV.
A motion-controlled remote for the Xbox has been under development by Rare since August last year, and Microsoft is telling games companies that it will be ready for next Christmas, according to the source.
But the source added that development is taking longer than planned.
Other developers of Xbox games have confirmed that they have been approached by Microsoft with the intention of converting popular titles such as Halo into 'waggle mode'.
Microsoft's pursuing this route is hardly surprising, given the runaway success of the Wii and Sony's addition of a wand-style controller to the PS3 US launch in November.
