Opera promises a desktop-like browsing experience on mobile handsets

Norwegian developer Opera Software has released the latest version of its browser for Windows Mobile phones.

The firm said that the new Opera Mobile 10 Beta will improve the mobile experience, and bring a PC desktop-like browsing experience to handsets.

The software is tied closely to Opera's other browsers, including the Opera 10 desktop release and the Opera Mini 5 beta, creating a similar look and feel for users wherever they are, the firm said.

Opera Mobile 10 Beta includes tabbed browsing and a password manager, along with Opera Turbo, the firm's server side web serving tool which it claims can dramatically boost download speeds.

"We are unifying our products so that users get the same experience, no matter the device or which particular Opera browser they are using," said Jon von Tetzchner, chief executive at Opera Software.

"With Opera Mobile 10, we are raising the expectations of how a mobile browser should perform. Today, users require a browser as powerful as the web, one that can handle their daily tasks as well as their computers. That's Opera. "

The company said that the new browser is compatible with the majority of web sites, while smooth surfing improves the browsing experience by panning, zooming and scrolling around pages.

The beta version is available now for testing now.
