Toshiba has announced two additions to its ultra-portable Portege R500 series, claiming the titles of the world's thinnest and lightest notebooks.

Engineered for on-the-go productivity, the R500-S5003 weighs 1.72lbs, owing much of its lightness to a 64GB SSD4 sold state drive.
It uses a three-cell lithium ion battery for featherweight mobile computing, eliminating all moving parts from this configuration. The Portege R500-S5003 has a price point of $2,699.
The R500-S5004, meanwhile, measures 0.77in and packs an integrated optical disk drive and a 64GB SSD4. The R500-S5004 has a price point of $2,999.
Both devices feature a 12.1in transreflective LED backlit display which allows for use in virtually all types of lighting situations, including direct sunlight.
