Microsoft is advising customers to install two new patches, one for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, and one for Visual Studio .Net 2003, Outlook 2003 and CRM 1.2.
Both are rated of 'moderate' importance, and Microsoft said that customers "should consider" applying the patches.
The first patch fixes a flaw in the IDirectPlay4 API that is commonly used for multi-player gaming. The patch is available here.
If a third party sent a specific form of data to an unpatched computer running Microsoft DirectPlay it could crash the application, requiring a reboot.
The second patch addresses the way in which Visual Studio .Net 2003, Outlook 2003 and CRM 1.2 interoperate with Crystal Reports. The patch is available here.
The flaw could allow a hacker to retrieve and delete files, but the risk to unpatched computers can be reduced using Crystal Reports' own security settings.
This may well be the last security release before Service Pack 2 is shipped. The update was due in May but is now likely to be released next month.
