Orange has confirmed the details about the Motorola Dext handset first reported yesterday by V3.co.uk in the Frontline blog.
The mobile operator said that the Dext would go on sale today exclusively in Milton Keynes before moving on to other parts of the country.
Orange is hoping to create a splash with the Dext, which it has on an exclusive basis, and is using it as the main attraction at the opening of its flagship Multimedia Store in Milton Keynes today at 3pm. The handsets will be sold across the country in branches of Phones4U from tomorrow.
The Milton Keynes store is special because it lets users "engage" with devices, the company explained. From the sound of things it mimics an Apple Store, and features a giant 70in cinema-style screen and seating area, and confusingly a "bouncy rubber floor".
"Advances in digital media are staggering, and increasingly becoming an essential part of our everyday life," said Cherry Peters, manager of the new store.
"Therefore, the need to keep up has never been greater, which is why Orange has created a fun and entertaining centre for all to enjoy, whether you're a tech savvy teen or less aware of what your digital devices can offer to make your life easier."
Orange is offering the Dext free to customers who take out a two-year £34.26 per month contract. The package includes 900 any network call minutes, unlimited texts, Orange Maps and inclusive anytime internet browsing so that users can make the most of their mobile experience.
