IT Outsourcing
Yes, I agree and have been saying this for years, funnily enough throughout my time working for the IT department at TfL. I am now running my own IT department and insist that we only use outsourcing in emergency situations, at all other times, I use educational resources to keep skills inhouse, they are an investment for the future, they keep staff motivated and above all it keeps costs down. The other key advantage of not outsourcing and using internal skills is that those working for the company tend to be more faithful to their employer and will put in more time and not cut corners, thus avoid any mistakes that may arise in the future. Consultants tend to get in and out as quickly as possible, take their money then wait for the phone calls regarding the problems that have occurred because the job wasn't done properly, then charge more to come in and fix the problems that should not have occurred in the first place.
