Sun Microsystems today unveiled the latest release of its Radio Frequency ID offering, Sun Java System RFID Software 2.0.
The software is designed to integrate with, and provide services to, a variety of existing enterprise applications through standard protocols and interfaces including EPCglobal Application Level Events.
RFID Software 2.0 is designed to filter, aggregate and process volumes of RFID data at the edge of an RFID network, delivering business information to enterprise applications and reducing network traffic.
The latest version also includes a browser-based management interface for centralised monitoring and management of RFID devices and other sensors across distributed networks.
According to Sun, the offering is also ready for EPCglobal Generation 2 readers and tags, which provide faster, more secure and more accurate reads.
"Sun is one of the first companies preparing for the next generation of RFID deployments by supporting both the latest EPCglobal standards, as well as other RFID standards such as ISO," said Sam Liu, director of RFID product management at Sun.
