An online petition to scrap the proposed logo for the London Olympics in 2012 is proving very popular.
Over 25,000 people have signed the petition to have the logo, which was developed at a cost of £400,000, changed to something more suitable.
The pink and yellow logo uses a specially developed font, 2012 bold, for lettering and will also be animated.
"I feel it is an embarrassment and portrays our country in the worst possible way," said Jonathan Ellis, who started the petition.
"The original London 2012 Logo was better by far. We need a new logo now, or at least a return to the old one!
"I am proud and excited about the Olympics coming to London, and the UK, and it is for this very reason that we need to get this terrible logo dropped as soon as possible."
The petition was set up shortly after the logo was announced to the press and has pulled in huge numbers of people in just a single day, including one person who claims to be the designer's brother.
"The new emblem is dynamic, modern and flexible. It will work with new technology and across traditional and new media networks," said the sporting event's organisers.
"It will become London 2012's visual icon, instantly recognisable among all age groups, all around the world."

Olympic Logo
What a waste of taxpayers money. Let us start to scrap it then relieve the team who is responsable for its approval.

its rubbish!
i think the new logo is rubbish! it doesnt represent london at all! and if u havent noticed the shape with the olympic sign on it looks liek australia! the logo is makin it look like london is rubbish like the logo! everybody is raging in my school about it as it is a let down ! im only fifteen years old and this may be the last time london holds it and i want a logo to be proud of i hope that people that are reading this agree with me! please change the logo!!!!!!!

Tangrams, Anyone?
Tnis puts me in mind of the produces of the miniseries, V, who scanned a Nazi swastika into a computer and asked the computer to print out an emulation of it. They got back a long oval on a white rectangular field with two dots at the top left of the oval and two dots on the bottom right of it, the whole resting on a sea of red. If the UK Olympics Committee spent 400,000 quid on logo development and got that mess for their trouble, they should demand their money back. I'd sooner see something like the five interlocking Olympic rings surmounted, or perhaps interlaced, with the arms of the City of London with the numerals 2012 beneath; or some variation on this. Considering that the British really codified the science and language of armory for indentifying symbols, the UK Olympic Committe should be ashamed of themselves for accepting that ridiculous, fuggly THING.

Initially difficult to decipher!
I saw the 2012 olympics logo for the first time minutes ago, and it took me a while to even tell that it was the number 2012! It may look because they will be animating. I can see those numbers wiggling now.
