Agito fuses cellular, VoIP, Wi-Fi and location information to cut mobile expenses

Unified communications startup Agito Networks is expanding into Europe with its RoamAnywhere Mobility Router aimed at driving fixed-mobile convergence in the enterprise.

The firm said that by using dynamic least-cost routing over all available communication channels, fusing cellular, VoIP, Wi-Fi and location information, companies can dramatically reduce their mobile expenses.

"With international roaming and data charges, the cost of doing business abroad is skyrocketing and in many areas coverage issues remain," said Agito co-founder Pejman Roshan.

Agito can help evolve unified communications by adding application-layer security and mobile context, and most importantly automatic proactive call handover in under 100ms between Wi-Fi and mobile networks, according to Roshan.

The RoamAnywhere platform includes Secure Remote Voice, which allows the creation of a secure voice-over-wireless-LAN connection from Wi-Fi networks in homes, hotels and public hotspots. This uses an application-layer Secure Sockets Layer connection to isolate it from non-enterprise networks, thereby protecting the call from eavesdropping while giving users enterprise PBX connectivity.

The back end allows IT managers to create policies based on usage and location to help maximise the cost savings.

Agito has also developed innovative ways of saving battery life by switching off the Wi-Fi when it is not needed, and determining whether the device is inside or outside a building.

"Agito Networks has garnered its share of industry accolades and customer traction in the US and I'm seeing significant interest from European end users and channel partners alike," said Paul Donovan, vice president of European business and market development at Agito.

"Mobile operators have yet to solve their issues with fixed-mobile convergence or deliver enterprise mobility to their customers, paving the way for Agito. I'm excited to benefit from the clear greenfield opportunities in Europe to deliver robust enterprise convergence and mobilise enterprises' unified communications and voice applications."

RoamAnywhere is available through channel partners starting from around £6,960 for the 2000 Series and £19,150 for the 4000 Series.
