LinkedIn, the world's largest professional networking site, has hit a new milestone, declaring it now has three million members in the UK.
The company's co-founder, Reid Hoffman, travelled to the UK to host a networking event last night in London with Kevin Eyres, LinkedIn European managing director, to mark the milestone.
"Three million professionals from every conceivable background and an industry with one common aim: to share their knowledge and learn from others so that they might do their job a little better or get a little closer to whatever professional and personal goals they have," Eyres wrote in a blog post.
LinkedIn further increased its potential for growth by releasing a set of application programming interfaces (APIs) on Monday that will let developers integrate corporate network networking data with enterprise applications.
The APIs will allow corporate users of LinkedIn to access data stored in the networking tool from their day-to-day business applications.
Hoffman also announced that the networking site may launch an initial public offering in the future, according to a Reuters report.
The news follows similar remarks from Twitter on Tuesday, and Facebook's introduction of a dual-class share structure yesterday.
