The proposed .xxx porn domain has been mysteriously dropped from ICANN’s board meeting agenda.
The news was presented by ICANN chairman Vint Cerf, who surprised delegates at the open meeting of ICANN’s governmental advisory committee (GAC) in Vancouver on Tuesday by announcing that the debate surrounding the new domain had been dropped from the board meeting agenda.
Cerf said that more time was needed to review a 350-page ICANN report on the domain's feasibility before discussions could proceed.
But analysts point out that the unreleased report has already been available for some time and that it is broadly in favour of granting the domain anyway.
According to Techdirt.com other possible reasons for the delay are EU and US state intervention.
EU commissioner Viviane Reding is said to have called the head of ICANN Paul Twomey and threatened to withdraw all the EU's representatives unless the issue was pulled.
Meanwhile various factions within the US government are also said to be alarmed at the idea of a porn-only domain.

How stupid
Everybody is worried about porn getting in the hands of kids. And it's obvious that porn does get in the hands of kids by some of the appaling sexual issues appearing in schools across North America. Its obvious to me that ICANN doesnt want to face the fact that the internet isnt just filled with researchers and universities anymore and that porn dwarfs most other business done on the internet. I think the only responsible thing is to put this xxx domain forward, so parents and customers can contact their ISP and state that they want no porn and have it turned off. This would only stop part of the tide but at the very least ICANN could start revoking domain names that contained porn on dotcom and other registries could reclaim domain names. It seems almost anything you type into your browser window, even a misspelling features porn these days, and while porn does have it's place, we dont allow hardcore.com to show advertisments on CNN now, do we?

Porn Hurts
Although I am a staunch believer in Freedom of Speech. ...I agree that the .xxx domain name should be permanantly shelved and never allowed to go forward. Giving the .xxx domain legitimacy helps to refinforce and legitimize the Pornography industry which, despite whatever your personal position on the subject may be, Pornography is is harmful to Society as a whole. With the goal of creating a better world, both the consumers and the producer of Pornography could be using their resources and valuable time towards making this planet free of sexual slavery, abuse of children, and the involvement of the criminal element that helps promote the pornography industry. Consumption of Pornography is a mental illness which drives away human interaction and de-sensitizes the human experience to to love and itinmacy. Production of Pornography is a protected act of speech that is abused by thousands of Pornography producers who prey upon the weak and the the poor and the needy and the unsuspecting to engage in an industry that while is generally legitmate according to our Constitution is a hurtful and desparate industry with no other purpose than using their Consitiutional freedoms for the purposes of exploitation and greed. My personal opinion is that the Internet was not developed as a distribution channel for Pornography and further legitimization of it is the same as giving tacit approval to the vast network of individuals who coerce women and other people to engage in Pornography . That's my 2 cents. K. B Atlanta, GA

.XXX
I think it would be a good idea to have this domain, It would make filtering adult sites so much easier just to block the whole .xxx domain
