Toshiba is recalling its Satellite T135, Satellite T135D and Satellite Pro T130 laptops in response to reports that these devices overheat and can burn users.

About 41,000 laptops sold between August 2009 and August 2010 worldwide are affected by this defect, according to a US Consumer Product statement.

Toshiba is reported to have received 129 complaints of laptops overheating and the plastic casing area around the AC adapter plug deforming, according to the statement.

There have been two reports of minor burn injuries that did not require medical attention and two reports of minor property damage, the statement added.

Toshiba has released a BIOS revision to prevent the computer from overheating in this manner.

“To protect you from injury and your computer from damage, Toshiba strongly recommends that you update your system BIOS to version to 2.70 for the Satellite T135, 1.90 for the Satellite T135D and 2.70 for the Satellite Pro T130,” a Toshiba statement said.

This program will detect whether the notebook computer is overheating, and disable the notebook’s external power. A message directing the user to contact Toshiba for a free repair will also be displayed.

V3.co.uk contacted Toshiba but the manufacturer said it was not in able to comment on the severity of the situation in the UK.
