Nokia has unveiled the world's first phone that complies with the 3G Partnership Project specifications.

The full colour screen and camera-equipped Nokia 6650 works with both the Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) and Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) protocols, and will make it possible to exchange multimedia files while talking on the phone.

The handsets will be made available to operators for testing in the next couple of months, and will be commercially available next year.

Software allows users to view and edit their own audio, video and picture files on their PCs, and to connect the phone to their computers using USB, Bluetooth and infrared.

Nokia explained that the handset has GSM and WCDMA chips on one circuit, allowing for longer battery life.
