Israeli infrastructure supplier ECI Telecom has unveiled an encryption platform which it claims can protect all types of data transmission over high-speed Ethernet networks.

The Aurora-G platform forms part of ECI's offering for the government and military telecoms market, but is also available for other markets and applications which require high security and data protection.

Information transmitted within a network operator's campus is considered secure, but fibre optic cables connecting different campus sites are vulnerable as intruders can easily access or divert information in transit.

ECI believes that enhanced security for these points is critical, particularly for governments, military organisations, financial organisations and utility companies where data transmissions are highly valuable and sensitive.

By encrypting the data running over the fibre, a network operator can achieve the highest level of protection against external threats.

The Aurora-G card offers Layer-2 encryption and is integrated into ECI's XDM Multi-Service Provisioning Platform and All-Range ROADM offering.

By integrating the encryption functionality into the XDM, service providers can reduce network complexity, decrease power and space requirements and lower operational expenditures through integrated management tools.

Aurora-G's functionalities, including its encryption keys, are managed remotely by ECI's LightSoft network management system.

The Ethernet traffic is encrypted with AES-256, the strongest encryption method available today. Any piece of data that is not encrypted with the correct key, or that was modified in any way, is rejected thus safeguarding the network.
