Texas Instruments is preparing to enlarge its chip-making facilities, and has purchased a 120,000 square foot factory along with another 134,000 square feet of space for future expansion in Chengdu, China.
The facility, acquired from the Cension Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, will primarily be used for the fabrication of semiconductors.
Texas Instruments believes that the factory can support the manufacturing of as much as $1bn (£630m) worth of components annually.
"Increasingly, customers there are using TI's analogue chips for the real-world functions in their electronic applications," said Texas Instruments analogue senior vice president Gregg Lowe.
"This fab in Chengdu will strengthen our ability to support customers' growing requirements and deliver analogue products when and where customers need them."
Texas Instruments has seen increased demand for its products in China, particularly in the areas of low-power servers and hand-held computers.
The company has also expanded facilities in the US, Germany and Japan over the past two years.
