Centrix Software has expanded on the IT intelligence and reporting capabilities of its Workspace software with new application monitoring and metering features designed to help customers move towards the most appropriate delivery method for each application or service they use.

Announced at VMworld in Copenhagen, Centrix WorkSpace 5 adds a new WorkSpace iQ module which gathers specific data on how applications and resources are being used.

This allows customers to make better informed decisions on the most cost-effective delivery method for applications and desktop access, according to the firm.

"With increasing numbers of applications, devices and desktop delivery platforms in use within today's corporate enterprise, identifying the true cost and business value associated with IT service delivery is difficult," said Centrix chief executive Lisa Hammond.

WorkSpace iQ provides a platform for discovering, monitoring and metering assets and service consumption across an organisation's IT environment, Centrix said.

This enables the IT department to put in place chargeback processes, and develop an IT-as-a-service approach to their current environment.

The WorkSpace 5 suite consists of WorkSpace iQ plus WorkSpace Discovery, an audit tool for finding which applications are installed on client systems, plus WorkSpace Universal, which presents a single view of all software and service assets available in an organisation.

WorkSpace Discovery is available as a free download, while WorkSpace iQ licensing starts at £55 per user and WorkSpace Universal starts at £99 per user. Alternatively, the whole suite can be licensed starting from £129 per user.

Centrix WorkSpace 5 will be available from 25 October.
