The two hackers who successfully gained control of Comcast's website have been speaking out about the attack.
'Defiant' and 'EBK', who operate with the Kryogeniks hacking group, claim to have gained access to the site using a vulnerability and social engineering techniques aimed at the site's hosting company.
They added that they were surprised and appalled at how much fuss the attack had generated.
"The situation has kind of blown up here a lot bigger than I thought it would," 'Defiant', a 19 year-old man whose first name is James, told Wired. "I wish I was a minor right now because this is going to be really bad."
The hackers claim to have accessed 200 Comcast sites, but vandalised only one by editing the contact address to 'Dildo Room' at '69 Dick Tard Lane'.
They then contacted Comcast's technical manager to inform him of their actions, but claimed that he did not believe them.
Angered by this 'EBK' then carried out more serious defacements, headlining web pages with 'Kryogenics Defiant' and 'EBK RoXed Comcast, sHouTz to virus Warlock elul21 coll1er seven'.
'EBK' said: "I wasn't even really thinking. Plus, I'm just so mad at Comcast. I'm tired of their sh***y service."
Although Comcast quickly regained control of its sites, some customers suffered service interruptions for up to 12 hours. The company confirmed that no customer details had been exposed.
"Nobody was listening in on the ports to try and get usernames and password, " said 'Defiant'. "We could have, but we didn't."
