Browser firm Opera has announced plans to switch its datacentre servers to smaller models from Dell in a bid to increase performance.
The datacentres are responsible for powering Opera Mini and Opera Turbo, and the change will increase performance by a third while cutting power consumption by 35 per cent, the firm said.
Opera will now use Dell PowerEdge servers in its datacentres in Iceland, Norway, Korea, China, Poland and the US.
"Users of Opera browsers expect the world's fastest browsing experience across devices, platforms or operating systems," said Rikard Gillemyr, executive vice president of engineering at Opera.
"In order to continue to successfully deliver this level of service, we rely on our IT infrastructure to support our business by providing top performance and reliability."
Opera co-founder Jon von Tetzchner added that the new servers will help to keep a lid on power expenditure while still remaining agile for growth.
"Opera Mini is the world's largest mobile browser and growing rapidly. To keep up with growth while maintaining a low overhead on resources, having the optimal configuration of hardware is essential," he said.
