The Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) has announced the appointment of Steve Hoover as its new chief executive.
Hoover most recently worked at PARC parent company Xerox as vice president of software and electronics development, and will take over from Mark Bernstein.
The transition will provide a new leader for a research centre that has been a legend in the technology world for four decades.
PARC was launched in 1970, and became famous for pioneering innovations such as the graphical user interface, as well as for its reputation for granting creative and managerial freedom to its researchers.
The facility was spun off from Xerox in 2002 and now functions as a wholly owned subsidiary of the company.
"PARC is consistently at the forefront of pioneering new breakthroughs for its clients due to its greatest asset, the expertise and strength of its talented employees, as well as its unique business model," said Hoover.
"PARC's dedicated team of innovators will continue to build an open environment where employees, technology visions and business success can flourish globally."
