AOL UK has said it will be closing its pay per minute Netscape Online internet service provider (ISP), making 20 UK employees redundant in the process.

The company apparently sees its future in the flat rate internet access model, which it launched back in November, prompting the disbanding of the Netscape Online ISP which it bought back in 1998.

Although 20 staff are believed to be affected, no subscriber or user figures are available for Netscape Online. But AOL said that customers would be offered alternative access plans on AOL branded services.

The Netscape.com portal and Netscape Navigator and Communicator packages will not be affected.
