Micro-blogging service Twitter has rolled out a Tweet Button platform allowing users to share web pages.
Web site administrators can embed the Tweet Button, which opens a window allowing users to preview and post the link as a tweet.
The button also includes a counter for site publishers which lists the number of times a URL has been displayed on Twitter, both through the Tweet Button and through links posted in other Tweets.
Twitter spokeswoman Carolyn Penner highlighted the ease with which publishers can deploy the Tweet Button.
"The Tweet Button is simple for users and publishers of all sizes. Recreational bloggers to large media companies can quickly and easily add the Tweet Button to their sites," she said in a blog post.
Among the sites supporting the Tweet Button are YouTube, WordPress, Ask.com and The Onion.
Twitter also said that it had struck a deal with TweetMeme, which currently offers its own Twitter-sharing button. The Twitter Button will completely replace TweetMeme buttons, and the company will shift its focus to Tweet traffic analysis tools.
