Nominet has announced the launch of its 2010 Internet Awards, formerly known as the Best Practice Challenge.
The registry firm, which manages more than eight million .uk URLs, is looking for submissions from individuals and organisations in the public, private and charity sectors in five areas: getting people online; making the internet safer; opening the world of knowledge; empowering young people and citizens; and nurturing powerful local partnerships.
"Over the last three years we have seen some great examples of inventive grassroots projects that are using the internet to make a real difference to society," said Lesley Cowley, chief executive of Nominet.
"These projects, coupled with the work that some of the more established organisations are doing, showcase how the web can be progressive and used as a force for good.
"Nominet is keen to highlight and share these examples with the wider internet industry to spark further internet innovation, and help make the internet a safe and trusted place for all."
Entries must be submitted by 1 April, and will be assessed by an independent panel of judges chaired by Alun Michael MP.
