The average fraud case involves the analysis of 500,000 emails and electronic documents, according to a newly published report by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
Computer records now make up over 80 per cent of the evidence in fraud cases, and digital fraud investigations have tripled in the past two years.
The consulting firm has investigated 150 cases in the past 14 months, and said that the number of cases reaching the crown courts is at the highest level for two years.
PwC also found that such cases are becoming increasingly complex. A recent multinational investigation involved 90 computers in 18 countries and the analysis of 2.6 million email messages.
In another case a fraud focused on a single inbox containing 450,000 emails.
Such cases also have a geographic bias, with 80 per cent of cases centring on London and the south east.
Fraud cases involving identity theft showed a marked increase over the past two years.

Kindly beware of this scam. Offering handphones at extremely low price. Have cheated my money valued at USD 1090 (including shipping charges). Promised to deliver the Iphones after payment have been made. Seller will ask to pay to them via Western Union. This is their website: http://www.freetoadvertise.biz/84862-on-sale-apple-iphone-3gs-32gb-200-iphone-3g-16gb-140-samsung-i8000-omnia-ii-210-a.html I am Malaysia. Have ordered 5 units of Iphone & paid the seller in Nov 2009. Then seller mentioned that they have wrongly packed the package with 10 units of Iphones inside the package. Told them to repack to 5 Iphones units. Then, they mentioned that have already shipped the package via FEDEX & told me to pay the remaining 5 units in order to get the package delivered to me. Have checked with FEDEX. So such package from the UK to Malaysia. Acc no provided by seller is invalid. Have been 3 months & package still not delivered. Emailed seller to refund my money. But they blocked my email.... True story. I am the victim. Email me if u need more info. Thx
