Wyse Technology has delivered on its plans announced in February to produce a Windows virtualisation application for the Apple iPad.
The PocketCloud application features an easy-to-understand user interface, enterprise level security, and support for multiple standards and virtualised infrastructures, the firm said.
PocketCloud has been available on the iPhone for some time, but this new version adds over 20 new features, according to Wyse.
"The goal at Wyse is to allow our customers to access any document or file from any device. The PocketCloud app has been a great addition to our offerings, and we are delighted to be supporting iPad at launch," said Daniel Barreto, chief software architect at Wyse.
"The fact that iPad will provide PocketCloud users with a beautiful large screen makes the combination of iPad and PocketCloud a natural fit. We expect the adoption of iPad to be yet another reason for businesses and consumers to abandon their PCs."
Wyse explained that it had completely rewritten the application in order to be ready for the launch of the iPad, and that its core engine had been updated to take full advantage of the tablet's 1GHz processor.
Wyse PocketCloud connects to the Windows 7 Pro and Ultimate, XP Pro, Vista Business and Remote Desktop Services and Terminal Services features in Windows Server products. The application for iPad costs £17.99 and is compatible with the iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch and iPad.
The new app is one of a growing number being developed for the iPad, a trend which could yet see the device span both consumer and enterprise worlds as the iPhone did before it.
At the weekend, Citrix launched new enterprise apps for the iPad with Citrix Receiver and a version of its GoToMeeting collaboration application.
