AMD has slashed the price of its chips for laptops in a move to clear its backlog as it introduces new faster processors.
The chip maker has cut prices by up to 35 per cent, with the biggest reduction for its Athlon XP 1800+AMD, which now costs $196, down from $301.
The price of a 1700+ Athlon laptop processor has dropped by 18 per cent, from $205 to $169.
AMD this week introduced its latest Athlon XP processors, the 1900+ and 2000+, which cost $239 and $345 respectively.
Hewlett Packard and Fujitsu Siemens Computers will offer laptops using the new Athlons immediately.
AMD, which typically cuts prices on older chips as it introduces new ones, now charges $169 for its mobile 1600+, down from $180, and $150 for its 1500+, down from $169.
All prices are for quantities of 1,000 units.
