It won't be a Wappy Christmas for subscribers to new media industry portal mad.co.uk, after it withdrew an offer of a free Wap phone.
Last Friday an email promised subscribers "A free Wap phone for Christmas from mad.co.uk". All subscribers were asked to do to receive the phone, being supplied by Carphone Warehouse, was sign up for a free unified messaging service, provided by Yac.
However, a sheepish email from mad.co.uk delivered today said it had given subscribers the wrong signal and the phone on offer was actually Wapless.
"I am very sorry that the email was in fact incorrect and is not for a Wap phone but a Nokia 3310," mad.co.uk publisher Stephen Brooks told subscribers.
Subscribers shouldn't feel too hard done by, however. In its apology email mad.co.uk also revealed that the Wapless phone will be accompanied by a free minidisc player. Seasonal cheer indeed.
