A new JPEG algorithm in version 12.0 can compress images by up to 25 per cent without compromising quality, according to the firm.
WinZip 12.0 adds support for the 7Z, CD/DVD .ISO and .IMG disk image file formats, and a new password policy for compressed archives allows " customisation of the encryption password requirements to achieve a desired password complexity".
With the Pro version system administrators can also specify which encryption methods are available to each user, and can disable the encryption features completely during MSI installation.
Both versions are available now for Windows XP and Vista. The Standard version costs £19.99 including VAT, and the Pro version £29.99 including VAT.
WinZip was acquired by graphics software vendor Corel in May 2006.
