The Conservative Party has launched a new competition with a £1m prize to find a developer able to build a new online crowdsourcing platform.
Shadow culture secretary Jeremy Hunt said in a statement that the platform would be used by a future Conservative government to help it better engage the public in the policy-making process.
It could help with a range of tricky policy decisions, he explained, from tackling government waste or designing a local planning strategy, to finding the best school or avoiding roadworks.
"Conservatives believe that the collective wisdom of the British people is much greater than that of a bunch of politicians or so-called experts. And new technology now allows us to harness that wisdom like never before," said Hunt.
"So at this time of year, when families and friends are getting together, we're announcing a new idea to help the British people get together to help solve the problems that matter to them.
"Too often policy has been ill thought through with disastrous consequences. When formulating and implementing policy, why should we not listen to the hundreds of thousands of experts out there?"
The platform would be used by the Tories to publish Green Papers, for example, so the public could have its say on government policies, said Hunt.

Rubbish
Complete waste of money. Effort (not the same thing as money) should be applied to instilling discipline and standards in UK schools so that the populace can use English correctly. That is my suggession (See other post - my God!). The Conservatives need to concentrate on leadership rather than focus groups and trying to be all things to all men.

Cutting public spend?
Isn't it great to have a £1m prize for someone to knock up a facebook app to help Tories understand internet collaboration. Seems like a waste of money, maybe better spent on security, health or education.

old fashion surgession box
internet surgession box, any ideas can be placed on the web. Any one with a comment can air there veiws, on the surgession. The common Man or Women, would love to have a in put into how the hard earn taxes are used. At the end of the day it is in every ones intrest to get England back on to a shaw footing, it not any good to owe Billions and Billions of pound. If the common Man or women could see that money was not beening wasted, we would all be a little bit happy. At the moment in this Country, the moral is very low. Do to the miss management of taxes. I love this country, and one day I hope to be pride of it again.
