Yahoo's top website of 2002 was not a news, shopping or product site. It was devoted to a cat that got run over by a car.
According to Yahoo users the www.cathospital.co.uk site was one of the most popular in the UK last year.
More than four million people logged on to monitor the progress of 'Frank', the moggie who rose to fame last February when he was run over close to his home in Linton, near Cambridge.
His owner launched a website showing live pictures of Frank's recovery from a pelvic injury in an effort to trace a couple who had helped get the cat to hospital.
According to Yahoo: "Frank the cat has become something of an internet celebrity since the folks at cathospital.co.uk decided to show his recovery from a pelvic injury via webcam.
"If you're a kitty lover and the type of person who doesn't find it odd to be watching 'paw-ly' Frank recover live from his home in Cambridge, then this will be a dream come true for you."
According to the site, Frank is better and living in a new home in the country catching mice.
Other winners of the awards included The Guardian's Unlimited Film site, Aardman Animations and the HSBC Global Education Challenge.
