More than 170 people bid for the plane, which can fast-climb at a speed of Mach 1.8 and has a top speed of Mach 2.
But the Mig's seller, in Santa Maria, California, warned that if the successful bidder was outside the US they would need a US permit to export it. Buyers from Libya, Vietnam, Burma, North Korea and Syria need not bother, he said.
He also advised that federal authorities needed to be notified in advance of any flights.
"Supersonic flights in any aircraft over the US are limited to certain military test areas. We can get permission for buyer at China Lake and Edwards [air force base] sites," the seller said.
